linkacode

A code that stands
in for your server.

Give customers eight characters instead of an address. Point the code wherever you like, move it whenever you like, or cut it off — they keep using the same code and never see what sits behind it.

How it works

  1. Take a code. One, or a group of five for a set of servers. Use the code we assign, or word your own.
  2. Point it at your server. A hostname and a port. You can change the destination freely for the first 24 hours, then it is fixed.
  3. Give out the code. Every code comes with a share card — the code and a QR, nothing else — ready to send to customers.

Why a code rather than an address

Your address stays yours

Customers get eight characters. The server behind it is never shown to them, printed on anything, or recoverable from the code.

Nothing to re-issue

Everyone who already has the code follows automatically, with nothing to reinstall and nothing to retype.

Off means off

Switch a code off and it stops resolving immediately. A revoked code and one that never existed look identical from outside.

No one is counting your customers

We keep a daily total per code so you can see it is being used. We do not keep a record of who used it or when.

Billed yearly. A code keeps working for as long as it is renewed; let it lapse and it stops resolving, exactly as though it had been switched off. Groups are five codes that belong together — see the note on mixing below.

Single codes and groups

A single code works alongside your other single codes: someone can add two of them in the same app and see both servers together.

A group is five codes meant to be used as one set. They work with each other and not with anything else, so a customer holding one of your group codes can add the rest of the group but cannot mix in a code from elsewhere.

Apps enforce this and explain it to the person, so nobody is left wondering why a code was refused.
